Open
source intelligence and joint or coalition operations
(129) OSINT is a vital component of NATO’s future
vision. Through its concentration upon unclassified open sources of
information, OSINT provides the means with which to develop valid and reliable
intelligence products that can be shared with non-NATO elements of
international operations. Experience in the
Balkans, and the increasing importance of the Partnership for Peace and Mediterranean Dialogue members in
security dialogue, illustrates the need to develop information sources that
enable broader engagement with these vital partners.
